ESTABLISHED: 2024
The South African Wine Industry Professional Body (SAWIPB) was established to advance the competencies of practitioners across the wine industry value chain. This includes occupations spanning from vineyard and farm-based roles to production, logistics, marketing, and tourism and related industry functions. The goal is to enhance employability, elevate professional standards, and support the overall profitability and sustainability of the industry through targeted skills development.
SAWIPB plays a pivotal role in informing learning programmes, advising training providers, and offering ongoing professional development initiatives aligned to clearly defined occupational competencies developed by industry experts. SAWIPB also offers professional designations that formally recognise the knowledge, skills and experience of practitioners within defined wine industry occupations, providing individuals with a recognised professional pathway for career development and progression.
A key initiative includes the introduction and promotion of a Code of Conduct for wine industry practitioners, aimed at fostering ethical behaviour, promoting stakeholder confidence, and reducing the industry’s environmental and resource impact.
As the first professional body dedicated to coordinating skills development across the wine industry value chain, SAWIPB is supported by a broad network of employers and sector stakeholders who are committed to professionalising and transforming the industry.
