FOCUS: WIETA is a Social Standards Scheme owner and multi-stakeholder ethical trade association established to monitor and advise on farm and cellar worker conditions in the wine industry and broader agricultural sector. Producer members abide by an Ethical Code of Good Practice that regulates labour and health and safety standards in the wine, spirits and agricultural and value chains. WIETA issues a fair labour certification seal for approved wines where full traceability against ethical auditing and certification has been undertaken in the supply chain. It also provides members and their suppliers with a globally recognised ethical certification scheme which is based on issuing a risk grading against the audit outcome A (low risk) to D (very high risk). WIETA uses three independent certification bodies – NSF, BSC and Partner Africa -to audit against the WIETA Social Standard and Audit Methodology. WIETA also provides training and capacity building for workers and producers in labour and health and safety requirements for compliance.
